Nearly 170 participants from over 30 countries gathered in Tarragona for four days of cutting-edge science, collaboration, cultural exchange, and celebration of five decades of ISHSR history.

The Liver Sinusoid Meeting has officially come to an end, and as I look back on these extraordinary days in Tarragona, I can only feel immense gratitude, pride, and happiness for what we have experienced together.

Over four intense and inspiring days, the 23rd Liver Sinusoid Meeting brought together almost 170 participants from across the world, creating an exceptional environment where cutting-edge science, meaningful discussions, new collaborations, and unforgettable social experiences naturally came together. From the very beginning, our goal was to design a meeting that would go beyond scientific sessions alone: a space where people could connect, exchange ideas, strengthen friendships, and experience the unique spirit of our liver sinusoid community. Seeing this vision come to life has been incredibly rewarding.

The scientific program covered a wide range of topics across liver sinusoid biology and disease, including endothelial biology, inflammation, immunity, hepatic stellate cells, fibrosis, and innovative translational approaches. We had the privilege of hearing outstanding presentations from internationally recognized leaders and rising investigators, complemented by highly engaging oral communications and poster sessions. The level of science and interaction throughout the meeting was truly exceptional.

This year also held a particularly special meaning as we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of ISHSR. Looking back at five decades of scientific achievements, discoveries, and meetings reminded us of the remarkable journey of this society and, even more importantly, of the people who have built and sustained it over time.

Beyond science, the social activities became a central part of the experience. Participants discovered Tarragona’s history and culture through live music, local gastronomy, Roman heritage tours, traditional cultural performances, and many shared moments that helped transform colleagues into friends and collaborations into lasting connections. We even collectively created a unique artistic masterpiece, with participants contributing drawings of their favourite sinusoidal cells, another example of the creativity and community spirit that defined this meeting. With your kind approval, this masterpiece will be proudly displayed in my office in Tarragona, where you will always be most welcome.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who made this meeting possible. To all speakers, participants, moderators, abstract presenters, and attendees: thank you for your enthusiasm, your contributions, and for creating such a vibrant atmosphere throughout these days.

My sincere thanks also go to the institutions and organizations whose support was instrumental for this meeting, including the Ministry of Science, the Department of Research, Tarragona City Council, our scientific partners, sponsors, and supporting institutions.

I am especially grateful to the local organizing committee, staff members, and everyone working behind the scenes. Organizing a meeting of this scale requires extraordinary dedication, and their commitment, professionalism, and energy made every detail possible.

Finally, thank you to ISHSR for the opportunity and trust placed in Tarragona as host city for this edition. It has been a privilege and an honour to serve as President and help create this experience for our community. As we move forward, ISHSR will continue to foster this momentum by organizing events and activities in the lead-up to Tokyo.

The meeting may be over, but the discussions, ideas, collaborations, and friendships generated during these days will undoubtedly continue long after we leave Tarragona.

I already look forward to seeing this wonderful community again at the next Liver Sinusoid Meeting in Tokyo in October 2028.

With sincere gratitude,

Jordi Gracia-Sancho
